1984 Makahiki Set for Aug. 4

Date for the second annual Makahiki has been set for Aug. 4 this summer at the Ala Moana Beach Park, site of the first islandwide games held last summer. The OHA-organized event will take on a somewhat statewide flavor in 1984 with Kauai scheduled to participate, according to Kamuela Apuna, Heahh and Human Resources Officer. The 1983 games attracted more than 300 children and young adults who eompeted and enjoyed the traditional Hawaiian games. The games are held under the direction of Na Makahiki Pa'ani with OHA Trust-ee-at-Large Thomas K. (Unele Tommy) Kaulukukui serving as commissioner. The commission works in conjunction with the City and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation who provide logistics, manpower and direction along with a number of volunteers from the community and the OHA family.
