Kuhio Observances on Mar. 20, 25, 26
Two separate programs will mark the 1988 observance of Kuhio Day during the three-day holiday weekend on Oahu March 25-27. The General Services Administration will hold its annual program during the Friday, March 25, holiday at the Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Federal Building. Arts and crafts displays and demonstrations are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the federal program slated for 11 a.m. The program will include an address by Abigail Kekaulike Kawananakoa, president of the Friends of Iolani Palaee; entertainment by the Royal Hawaiian Band under the direction of Bandmaster Aaron Mahi and the Prince Kuhio Hawaiian Civic Club as
well as a tree planting ceremony, according to a tentative agenda from the GSA. On Saturday, March 26, whieh is the actual birthdate of the former Delegate to Congress who authored the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu has scheduled services at Mauna 'Ala, beginning at 9 a.m. Honolulu is the first Hawaiian Civic Club to be chartered by Kuhio in 1917. Honolulu and the namesake Prince Kuhio club alternate in holding the Mauna 'Ala services. Ali'i Sunday for Pnnee Kuhio is 10:30 a.m. March 20 at Kawaiahao Church. All those participating are asked to be ready by 10 a.m.
