Halau Hula O Maiki fundraiser May 28
Halau Hula O Maiki, under the direction of Kumu Hula Ooline Aiu Ferranti, will host its sixth annual founder's day celebration in memory of its founder, the late Aunti Maiki Aiu Lake. The celebration will be held Monday, May 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Kahikolu, the memonal garden dedicated to Aunti Maiki's memory. Kahikolu is on the campus of Saint Francis High School in Manoa at 2707 Pamoa Road, off Alaula Way. Festivities will begin with a 1.6 mile hula malie run, from the halau at Puck's AIley at King Street and University Avenue to Kahikolu. Walkers and runners will follow a scenic route along University
Avenue, Alaula Way and Pamoa Road. This day-long tribute to the memory of the acknowledged "Mother of The Hawaiian Renaissance" will feature performances by loeal entertainers: Pandanus Club, Kaleo-O-Kalani, Ka Pa Hula Hawai'i with Kaha'i Topolinski, Kumu Hula, and Kukunaokala, with John Kaimikaua, kumu hula, Rod Aiu, Halona with Manu Palama and Manny Kaehuaea, special guest halau from Hawai'i island: Ulalia's School of Hawaiian Dance Ulalia Kaai Berman, kumu hula. The host halau is Halau Hula O Maiki Coline Aiu Ferranti, kumu hula. An Hawaiian luneh, baked goods, T-shirts and
leis will be on sale. Those attending should bring beach mats or hali'i to siton. No coolers or aleoholie beverages are allowed. Donation is $10. There is an additional $5 fee to participants in the Hula Malie Run (whieh includes a commemorative T-shirt and celebration entrance). Money raised will be used to help realize Aunti Maiki's dream of a school building where all people ean eome to leam Hawaii's culture and history through song and dance.
