Native languages conference to meet at UH Hilo May 19-23
A Native American Languages Issues Institute Conference will be held May 19-23 at the University of Hawai'i, Hilo. This conference on indigenous languages will bring together the peoples of the Pacific and the Americas to share their progress and to examine various issues critical to supporting the survival native languages. The 'Ahakuka Kumuhana 'Ōlelo 'Oiwi 'Amelika is sponsored by the UH llilo and ihe 'Aha Pūnana Leo, Ine.
The program will include workshop sessions on research, program implementation, evaluation, maintenance and expansion. Sessions will examine these topics at the preschool, elementary, high school and college levels, as well as language issues in business, govemment, in the home and community, ceremony and religion, art and music.
