When Cherie Parbo applied with Alu Like's employment and training unit in July

1992, she had just graduated from high school, had never been employed, but wanted to work in the clerical field. With help from an Alu Like employment specialist, Parbo was placed in a Work Experience (WEX) activity as a clerk typist and was able to learn basic clerical skills. She also began attending Kaua'i Community College as a full-time student in order to complete her associate's degree. Parbo is now in her last semester at Kaua'i Community College and. after successfully completing her WEX training, is employed by Child and Family Services as a data entry clerk.
