We Wager One Thousand Dollars,

Against five hundred with our neighhor the Friend, or with any other man, that no proof can be adduced, that the islands said to have been discovered by Gaetano, and named La Mesa, La Disgraciada, Roca Partida, La Vezina, Los Monjas &c., are identical wiht this Archiplago discovered by Captaion Cook. We are not the relative or countryman of Cook, and if it can be proven that he was not the first European discoverer of these islands we will frankly acknowledge our error.
