KS admissions

I would like to voice my eoncerns about Kamehameha Schools' admissions policy. In 1960, my wife and I were called on by two ladies, administrators of Kamehameha's Senior Girls Motherhood Program. My daughter, Doreen 'lwalani Moku, was one month old at the time. The school's motherhood program required the senior girls to care for and learn parenting with a one month old child, and our daughter participated.

Upon eomplehon of the course, Doreen was given back to us along with a certificate declaring that she would be accepted at KS when of school age. In 1969, my family and I returned from Germany (I was in the Military on my way to Vietnam). We went to Kamehameha with the certificate declaring my daughter's eligibility, but were told that the program had been discontinued in the mid-60s and the certificate was no longer valid. Doreen had to apply through the normal enrollment procedure. That was more than 40 years ago. We tried every year thereafter to get our children enrolled and gave up in 1984. My wife and I are 100 percent Hawaiian and. to this day, none of my seven children and four grandchildren has been admitted to Kamehameha.
