Burial Notice

All persons having information concerning previously reinterred burials in Haukālua Heiau at La'aloa I3each Park (TMK: 3-7-7-10:36) in La'aloa lst Ahupua'a, North Kona District, lsland of Hawai'i are invited to eontact Patricia Engelhard, County of Hawai'i I )ept. of Parks and Recreation 808-961-8531, 101 Pauahi St., Ste. 6, 1 lilo, I II 96720, I )r. 13ob Rechtman, Rechtman Consulting, LLC 808-966-7636, HC1 I3ox 4149, Kea'au, HI 96749, and/or Kamana'o Mills, I3urial Sites Program 587-0010, 555 Kākuhihewa 131dg, 601 Kāmokila blvd., Kapolei, HI 96707. The following historical individuals have been identified from Land Commission records as having a connection to the 1 .a'aloa Ahupua'a, Kalua, Kanewa, Kelepa"a, Manuunuu, Nahuakoa, Opunui, Puhi, Pukai, and Pupu. Appropriate treatment of the remains will occur in accordance with HRS, Chap. 6E, respective to the burial site. The county intends to preserve all burials in plaee, lollowing the preparation of a I3urials Treatment Plan in consultation with any identified decendants and with approval of the Hawai'i lsland I3urial Council. All interested parties should respond within 30 days of this notice and provi.de information to DLNR-SHPD adequately demonstrating lineal descent from these specific Native Hawaiian remains, or cultural descent from ancestors buried in the same ahupua'a. ■
