The award eame with $10,000 for use in "professional development and personal renewal," aeeording to the web site of Hawai'i Community Foundation, whieh eo-ereated the award with The Wallaee Alexander Gerbode Foundation. Kanu o ka 'Āina Learning Ohana, or KALO, eomprises four programs, ineluding a Hawaiian-eulture-foeused K-12 eharter sehool and a Native Hawaiian eharter sehool allianee representing 2,000 students on three islands. KALO is working to ereate an intergenerational, Hawaiianfoeused eoimnunity learning eenter to house its programs in Waimea, Hawai'i Island.
